You want to use your Winsyslog 4.x configuration on a new machine where you would like to install Winsyslog 7.x?
Please do the following:
- Please keep in mind that WinSyslog 7.x requires a different
license key. Please contact
info@adiscon.com to obtain it. If you are a current UpgradeInsurance
customer, this upgrade is free as part of your package! Do not
proceed as long as you do not have a valid 7.x key.
- Export your Winsyslog 4.x configuration (For further instruction see How can I copy the configuration on other server?
- On your new machine import the configuration just by double click the registry file. Important that Winsyslog 7.x is not installed yet!
- Then, install WinSyslog 7.x.
- After installation, do not start the WinSyslog 7.x service.
- Next, start the WinSyslog configuration client (not the service). Now,
it will upgrade your configuration to 7.x.
- After this step, the upgrade is complete and you can begin using
WinSyslog 7. We recommend to check the upgraded configuration, especially
in regard to the new capabilities. It often pays to re-think what you have
done. We have seen configurations with a dozens of rules that could be
reduced to just a handful by using the new highly flexible boolean
filters.
To fully understand the new rule engine, we recommend watching a short
online
seminar on how it works.
