WinSyslog 7.x, upon installation, preserves your existing 4.x
configuration. However, the configuration is not upgraded to
7.x during the installation. This happens the first time the configuration
program is started. Until then, the filter settings from 4.x are not
applied to any WinSyslog service started.
Upgrading from WinSyslog 4.x to 7.x should be done as follows:
- Please keep in mind that WinSyslog 7.x requires a different
license key. Please contact
info@adiscon.com to obtain it. If you are a current UpgradeInsurance
customer, this upgrade is free as part of your package! Do not
proceed as long as you do not have a valid 7.x key.
- Download the WinSyslog 7.x install set.
- Then, install WinSyslog 7.x. WinSyslog 4.x will be removed, but the
configuration be preserved.
- After installation, do not start the WinSyslog 7.x service.
- Next, start the WinSyslog configuration client (not the service). Now,
it will upgrade your configuration to 7.x.
- After this step, the upgrade is complete and you can begin using
WinSyslog 5. We recommend to check the upgraded configuration, especially
in regard to the new capabilities. It often pays to re-think what you have
done. We have seen configurations with a dozens of rules that could be
reduced to just a handful by using the new highly flexible boolean
filters.
To fully understand the new rule engine, we recommend watching a short
online
seminar on how it works.
