Today is a special day for us: WinSyslog turns 30.

That is a milestone we are proud of. But we did not want to mark it with words alone. We wanted to make this anniversary useful to our users. That is why we are also releasing WinSyslog 18.2 today.

For this anniversary release, the biggest change is a permanent improvement to free mode. It now supports 3 devices and also includes the background service. Previously, free mode was much more limited. With this change, it becomes far more useful for small real-world deployments, labs, test environments, and evaluations.

We think that is a much better way to celebrate 30 years than with a logo or slogan alone.

A practical anniversary release

WinSyslog 18.2 also includes a number of additional improvements.

We improved the configuration client to make everyday work easier. We made the manual clearer and easier to use. We also added new language support for:

  • Spanish
  • French
  • Italian
  • Portuguese
  • Estonian

These translations were created with machine translation support. Corrections from native speakers are welcome.

In addition, WinSyslog 18.2 contains further fixes and maintenance updates.

30 years of Windows logging

When WinSyslog started in 1996, Windows logging looked very different from today. Since then, a lot has changed in operating systems, networks, protocols, deployment models, and user expectations. WinSyslog has changed with it.

Over these 30 years, the product has been used in many different environments, from small installations to demanding production setups. What matters most to us is not just that WinSyslog has been around for a long time. What matters is that it continues to improve and remains useful in real-world environments.

That is the standard we want to keep.

This is also the start of our anniversary year

Today is not just a release date and not just an anniversary date. It is also the beginning of a broader anniversary year for WinSyslog.

We already have more work underway toward v19. This includes a new client application, new metrics support and metrics review, and next steps toward improved log viewing.

So while today is a good moment to look back, it is also a good moment to look ahead.

Thank you

A product does not reach 30 years on its own.

So today, we want to say thank you to our users, customers, partners, and all those who have supported WinSyslog over the years.

WinSyslog 18.2 is available now.
