We have just released WinSyslog 18.2, with practical improvements across licensing, usability, reliability, performance, documentation, and diagnostics.

One of the most useful changes in this release is the improved behavior after the 30-day trial ends. Instead of simply stopping at the end of the Enterprise trial, WinSyslog can now be configured to continue as the fully usable free edition, including the background service and support for up to 3 senders.

That makes the free edition especially attractive for home labs, test environments, and very small businesses that need a dependable Windows-based syslog service without moving straight to a paid edition. In practice, the 30-day Enterprise trial can smoothly downgrade to the free feature set while preserving everything promised for free use.

WinSyslog 18.2 also improves the configuration client to make everyday work clearer and easier. These changes were made based on user feedback, and they help simplify routine configuration tasks.

The documentation has also been improved significantly, with a clearer manual and more tutorial-style guidance to help users get productive faster.

In addition, WinSyslog 18.2 adds new language support for Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Estonian.

Technical improvements in WinSyslog 18.2

  • more reliable validation when loading configuration version information
  • higher TCP listen backlog and better handling when many clients connect at once
  • safer and more robust mail action shutdown, improved buffer handling, and clearer diagnostics
  • improved file writing and rotation behavior with lower risk of data loss
  • fixes and speedups in the rule and filter engine
  • clearer and faster property, charset, and timestamp handling
  • security-related stability fixes in text formatting and compressed log file handling
  • diagnostic messages that display correctly across supported languages and character sets

Overall, WinSyslog 18.2 is a practical, production-focused release that makes the product easier to use, more robust in day-to-day operation, and more accessible to a broader range of users.
